Eat well at Higher Lank Farm!
All our food is home made and so making it allergy friendly is never a problem. We use our own meat and eggs whenever possible, and vegetables from Andrew’s father who lives in the village and at nearly 94 keeps us and the rest of the Finnemore really well supplied. We buy and use lots of local produce too- Cornish Orchards juice (you’ll find it at breakfast and to welcome you to your cottage) and Cornish shortbread (in your bedroom or cottage) and lots more besides. Read what a recent visitor has to say about her experience with her severely allergic child.
Higher Lank Farm Food Policy
As traditional English farmers, we believe that the food we serve you should be produced locally, in order to conserve the beautiful environment in which we live, keep food miles to the minimum and support our local community.
The food we cook for you is, whenever possible, produced on the farm ourselves or produced by nearby farms and delivered to us. The beef we serve is from our suckler herd and the pork from our Saddlebacks. All our animals have a high quality of life, as you will see during your stay, and are reared outdoors. And of course, eggs are from our own free-range chickens.
We grow seasonal fruit and vegetables in our vegetable garden, greenhouse and orchard. Although we are not registered organic, we use no fertilizers or chemicals in the production of our fruit and vegetables and only very limited amounts of fertilizer on our fields. We participate in the Countryside Stewardship scheme.
All our apple juice is delivered to us by Cornish Orchards and our clotted cream comes from Trewithen Farm. Our bacon and chicken comes from Button Meats, who source their products locally, and our ice-cream is supplied by Roskillys, another diversified Cornish farm.
We use organic produce, when produced in this country or in Europe, but never purchase air freighted goods. We believe that it is better to buy local produce from a known source than imported organic fruit and vegetables. We are committed to only buying British meat.
